Thank you for visiting! Website is Under Construction
Nashville is known as “Music City USA!” and we’ve been calling it that for many years. But what was behind that? What kind of musical history is right here in Nashville and what kind of music was created on the world famous MUSIC ROW? For that matter, how did MUSIC ROW become such an iconic place anyway?
Find out all the answers to these questions and more within these pages. We hope you enjoy your journey!
HISTORY OF MUSIC ROW
A word from Mayor Megan Barry
The story of Nashville simply could not be told without discussing the incredible contributions of Music Row to our city.
With historic landmarks like historic RCA Studio B, which over the years has recorded the sounds of Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Elvis Presley, Music Row is a must-see for Nashvillians and visitors wishing to understand the rich history of our city.
This special publication [and project] recognizes and commemorates the historic contribution of Music Row to Nashville
I am honored to help celebrate the history of Music Row and I look forward to seeing this neighborhood continue to grow and thrive for many years to come.
Music Row has been part of Nashville’s musical heritage since 1955
when two brothers, Owen and Harold Bradley opened the first recording studio on what is now called “Music Row.” At the time, it was simply called16th Ave., but as “The Row” started to grow, it grew to include 17th and 18th Avenue. And some say it encompasses more.
In the earliest days of Music Row there was a great camaraderie among the musicians, artists and studio producers. The sounds that were created – including the great “Nashville Sound” were all created by musicians and artists joyfully collaborating to get what they thought was the greatest possible product. And recording one track at a time was unheard of because the technology to do so was not available.
Use this website to LEARN MORE about how we’ve grown from those early days – and to find out where we are going – both musically and as a city.
We know you’ll enjoy the journey!
